September 14, 2010

The media is all over this New York Jets and Ines Sainz locker room controversy.

Although I have  covered the topic, so to speak, in my own way during National Trollop Prevention month in August, and in several cleavage related posts, it is no surprise to me that now that it’s September, Ines didn’t get the memo.  I’ll rinse, repeat, and just put in my two cents. Eyeroll. Is my work never done?

Seems that Ines, who is a drop dead gorgeous Mexican reporter, had a little trouble in the Jets Locker room. She tweeted something to the effect that she was embarrassed or uncomfortable, as rude comments were made to her by the players.  Seems the Jets players behaved like they had never seen a gorgeous woman wearing skin-tight jeans and a revealing top. In other words, they behaved like little boys pretending to be men.

Ines didn’t really complain about it, but her colleague did. The press went wild. Even Sam Champion is tweeting about this.

There are two sides to this story. First, should women expect to be treated professionally if dressed like sluts even while working? Assume they are not standing on a streetcorner. Should men be expected to act like gentlemen when they are at their workplace and everywhere else regardless to what their female colleagues are wearing?

My answer may surprise you.

Here’s the thing. Ines has her own style. And that style is slutty. She’s known for it, the players know about it and guess what?  It works for her. Ines was just doing her job and they should respect that. Since she’s been doing that job for nine years, my guess is that she’s probably good at it.

There is no thin line between sexy and slutty. It’s a big huge mile wide line and Ines chooses to cross it daily. Does she look bad? Nope. She looks hot. Is this a good look for a reporter who wants to be respected? Maybe not. Would I advise people to dress like that? No, not really, but this may be an exception as she has made it her trademark. Frankly, with a few modifications, she’d probably look even better.

That being said, have we forgotten Charo? Some things just work.

Men need to realize that the workplace is not their local strip club and treat women with respect.

What do you think? What would you do… if it looked too good on you?

The Birds and the Bees According to Me

April 5, 2010

Dragon Whisperer

Oh, come on. You didn’t really think I meant that, did you? Okay, after last week’s post on booby management, I guess I don’t blame you, HA! but this this is a style blog. If you want that, call Dr. Ruth, or ask your Mom. Cheez.

Yes, there is a new trend in jewelry and I, for one, am loving rocking the plethora of insect and bird charms that are available for we jewelry designers to incorporate into our designs. Here are are few ways I have gotten a buzz with “things that fly”. Please click on the pictures for pricing and ordering info.

Dragon Whisperer: A sweet antique silver dragonfly charm flutters among marvelous orange chaledony (carnelian), alexandrite green mystic topaz, smoky quartz and white mystic quartz. 18″ sterling chain, sterling lobster clasp.

My Blue Heaven

My Blue Heaven: I could -not- put these stones down at my supplier’s shop. I bought a few strands having no idea what I would do with them. And I waited for inspiration. This is a special piece. The stones are just wonderful. What a color. Strung on silk, apprx 18″ . The bird charm is gold vermeil, and the gold accents are 10K gold plated. Gold plated lobster clasp.

What's the Buzz?

What’s the Buzz?: This is one I’m really proud of. I’d have to say it’s “me”, for lack of a better explanation.

A sweet gold vermeil honeybee charm flies wirh stunning mystic topaz in both a cool light denim shade and an alexandrite green paired with white quartz. All beautifully faceted. All apprx 12mm size. This necklace goes with everything, basically. 14K gold plated front toggle clasp and chain. 18″ but can be shorter if desired.

Dragonfly Ice

Dragonfly Ice:  Sweet, Sweet Antique gold dragonfly discs over mystic white quartz earrings. As shown these are on posts but they can be done on regular french earwires or leverbacks as well. 14K gold filled posts.

Leverbacks are 14K gold plated.

I will also be listing these in antique silver shortly. : )

Bee Passionate

Bee Passionate: Yes, I know it’s a bit corny. But what better way to describe this combination of orange passionfruit chalcedony, BEE-utiful blue flash labradorite and clear mystic quartz? The sweet little honey bee is gold vermeil, the chain and toggle are 14K gold plated. As shown it is 18″, but if you prefer a different length, please let me know.

Also if you would like the necklace with a back lobster clasp and no toggle, I can just put all of the stones on a ring for you. See the Miss Shelbi necklace for an example of that. Thank you!

Antique Silver Dragonfly

Antique Silver Dragonfly Earrings: Sweet little antique silver earrings with blackened details. Sterling earwires. Apprx. 3/8″ diameter, nice and lightweight.

These are also available in Antique Gold and can have gems like any of my mystic green, blue, or clear topaz added to the back for $10 more. They can also be done as post earrings.

Why Jewelry is Sexy

February 12, 2010

Can it be helped? Jewelry is sexy. People who wear it are sexy. I’m in a sexy business. It’s a great place for a hopeless freakin’ romantic to be. Ha.

There’s a saying “Any piece of clothing can be sexy with a quietly passionate woman inside it”. The same applies for jewelry.

Sexy, how, you ask?

Gisele Earrings

Think back, boys… That flash of silver on the curve of her neck when you kissed it. The flutter of an eyelash atop her beautiful eyes. The earrings that brought out the color of those eyes and rustled as she let you whisper in her ear “I love you” for the first time, while you tried to decipher if her eyes were really more of a blue or green, brown or hazel.

The pretty jewels that sparkled and drew you in as you looked…there… hoping she didn’t notice, because you just couldn’t help yourself. This is why jewelry is sexy. This is why men don’t buy jewelry for a woman they’re seeing unless they think she is “IT” all caps, exclamation point, hot, hot, hot personified. Because they know once they do that…they’re making a statement. All they see is you. All they want to see is you. And you are more than enough.

As a jewelry designer, I don’t just make jewelry, I make love happen. Passion, excitement, attraction. Hey- somebody’s got to do it. And it’s a fun job. My full line can be found online at http://www.sueanneshirzay.etsy.com

Ladies, I always say I want the beauty of a woman to be seen first before any piece I may design.  The  jewelry is only to accentuate the individuality of every woman. That’s why I love making custom pieces. Working with color and texture fascinates me. Simple, sensual, beautiful stones. I never make anything that’s overwhelming. Many of my pieces can be grouped together and layered.

Stephanie Mystic Blue Topaz Earrings

When you receive a gift of jewelry from a man it’s him saying “I want you, I love you, and that won’t go away anytime soon”. When you purchase it for yourself, it’s you saying “Look out, world, here I am. I look fantastic. Make way. I take no prisoners.”

It’s fun hearing stories about what happened to women when they were wearing something I created. People tell me how they met their new boyfriend, or better yet…married their husband… while wearing my jewelry. They got the job they really wanted. They got compliments all day. They tell me I must have put some kind of spell on the jewelry, because they met someone special the first time they put it on. Some people think that because I touched it they get my good vibes. I don’t know if any of that is true, it sounds silly, but it makes me happy to make them happy. What I really think is when you look good, you feel good. And good things happen.

Of course, I also hear stories of how the very interesting ways the jewelry, can, ahem, can get broken.  I have a “no questions asked” repair policy. Most of all I hear…”Sueanne…He really loves your jewelry on me”. “No”, I say, “It is you he loves”. The jewelry is just a sweet frosting on a delicious cake. And that is you. A beautiful woman, inside and out.

I wish you a happy, happy, sexy Valentine’s Day.
