What looks good on you for Spring-Winter 2012

June 1, 2012

I was fortunate enough to nab the very creative Editor-in-Chief from, Alexander Liang and their Fashion Director, the ever-so-chic Mia Tucker-Williams right after fashion week at the end of February and grill them on what’s hot and what belongs in the fashion dumpster for Spring-Winter 2012.

I’m Colorful Because … Jewelry Contest

May 8, 2012

SOMEBODY has been neglecting their blog. Apologies… building a Killer Social Media and Jewelry Empire (delicately coughs) has taken my attention away but I’m BACK and kicking off with another fun Pinterest Jewelry contest. Here are the rules:

As you may know, I love designing colorful jewelry for colorful women all over the world.

1. Go to my Pinterest Jewelry Page,

2. FOLLOW all of my boards by clicking “FOLLOW” next to my avatar. (Please follow all boards not just the jewelry board. This can be done by clicking FOLLOW next to my avatar)

3. Go to my “Jewelry” board and WRITE “I’m colorful because …” and answer after the dot dot dot in the comment section of any piece of jewelry there. Tell me what makes you… YOU. Have fun with it. : )

4. REPIN that piece to one of your own boards.

The most Colorful Answer wins a $75 Gift Certificate to Sueanne Shirzay Jewelry. You may enter as many times as you like but there must be one repin for every entry.

The winner will be announced Friday at 5:00 EST, Here and on Pinterest, just in time to give it as a gift to yourself, a friend or your Mom for Mother’s Day if you are so inclined.  But don’t worry, you do not need to be a Mom or even a GIRL to enter, this is just for fun.

What’s that you say? You do not have a Pinterest account?

I would be happy to email you an invitation to Pinterest, as many as they let me. Just email me with the header NEED PINTEREST INVITE or something like that at before Friday May 11th and I will hook you up.

Ashes to Ashes, Bust about to Bust: Oscar Fashion.

February 27, 2012

It’s official.

I love watching the Oscars Red Carpet more than the actual broadcast.

This year I chose to watch the E! Network coverage from the comfort of my beachside East Coast couch complete with pink champagne and for some reason, hummus. Hey, that’s just what I felt like eating. Don’t judge.

Before I was treated to the spectacular parade of gowns I was forced to endure what seemed to be an unusually long and detailed camera shot of P. Diddy being meticulously lint rolled by his valet. Did I really need to see that? No. No, I did not.

I don’t waste time talking about who was badly dressed, so let’s just skip right ahead to the good stuff. As usual, there were too many beautiful creations to list, and I don’t necessarily agree with what the experts say were the best gowns. I like different, unique, unpredictable. Most importantly, I like to pick the gowns that really seem to suit the person wearing them, fit well and are gorgeous.

Missi Pyle in Valentina Delfino

“The Artist” star Missi Pyle made her delicious green literally and figuratively eco-friendly fashion mark in the official Red Carpet Green contest-winning dress. It was designed by Valentina Delfino, and was made of recycled polyester and silk from cruelty-free silkworms. She’s 5’11” barefoot, but this dress suits her so well you would never really know it from viewing pictures.(Jason Merritt, Getty Images)

Judy Greer

Judy Greer’s insanely gorgeous liquid metal Monique Lhuillier gown also suited her perfectly. What redhead wouldn’t look super sexy in this slinky curvy silhouette, complete with art deco diamonds and a metallic clutch. I’m just a sucker for Art Deco and that less is more look. (Harper’s Bazaar, Brasil)

Oh. About the “bust about to bust”. Can someone please explain to me why a mega-star like Jennifer Lopez was unable to find a dress that wasn’t a nip-slip waiting to happen. Some are saying it did. For heaven’s sake, USE THE TAPE. Dress tape. Use more of it, use it correctly, or hey… here’s an idea, just get a dress that fits. I throw up my hands on this one.

Stacy Kiebler in Marchesa

Last but not least, George Clooney’s main squeeze, Stacy Keibler looked absolutely spectacular in a shimmery, flatteringly form-fitting, draped, off-the-shoulder Marchesa gown. Standing ovation, Miss Kiebler! That was my favorite gown of the night. (Steve Granitz, WireImage / Getty Images)

Shall I digress and talk about Sacha Baron Cohen’s ash throwing shenanigans? I think my tweet sums it up just fine. Ryan Seacrest certainly held his composure. I would have thrown that urn and Mr. Cohen into the closest third world country I could find.

Who was your favorite? What did you think of the drama that unfolded before the show?

What We Did 4 Love

July 28, 2011

Hi there! It’s 7/28, my birthday, and although I’ll be celebrating well into a week, hey, maybe even a month—there is a gift I am giving myself and that is…  *What We Did 4 Love*.  This new wing of Sueanne Shirzay Jewelry is something I have been wanting to do for years and currently features myself and jewelry artists Tina Tang and Beth Lerner. More will be joining. My goal is to have other types of handmade goods on the site other than jewelry.

10% of sales will go to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, whom I have worked with for the past year on other philanthropic jewelry projects. They are an amazing group of people who save lives every single day.

If you are an interested artist, please contact me at and thank you so much for your support as always. Please follow @WhatWe Did4Love on Twitter if you wish.

How about Mother’s WEEK?

April 20, 2011

Ladies and gents, I  was lucky enough to be invited to a Mother’s Day Top Picks event by the Accessories Council in NYC this year. There I was introduced to about a dozen fantastic gifts to present to your Mom in the event that you still want her to speak to you, or better yet, NOT speak to you at all except to tell you that you are fabulous and babysit when you go to Europe for a week to ten days at the drop of a hat.

Here are a few that impressed me the most:

I chatted with at length and loved the adorable beautiful and sweet Pam Fink from Good Charma. The Good Charma Bracelet is a keepsake piece of

good charma

jewelry ideal for any mom. It features genuine turquoise, lapis, red coral and pyrite gemstones with sterling silver and 22k gold vermeil nuggets. They are adorned with really cool heart charms. They can be found at Bloomingdales at a starting price of only $75. What I love most about these is that they are so lightweight and colorful! You can stack them, they look great, and you don’t even know they are there.

Sunglasses! Because of my baby blues, greens, or whatever the heck they are, I wear Sunglasses almost every day. Yes, even when it rains,

Calista by Michael Kors

You should too! Cuts down on the Botox. : ) Note: Hell, no, I don’t use Botox. Here is a great “No autographs, please” look by the chic Michael Kors. The Michael Kors collection launched a glamourous range of sunglasses named Calista. They actually come in two sizes, to better flatter your face. Whether your Mom is Edgy or a bit more understated, both shapes will work .  Retailing at only $200 these are an absolute must with summer just around the corner.

Another gorgeous and charismatic gal, Maria Brito has made it her mission in life to help New Yorkers and visitors alike  love where they live.  She loves two of my favorite things– wine and art. Maria’s projects have been featured in national and international publications.”Frida’s World’,

her art orientated interactive iPad and iPhone app for children about the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, was recently selected by Time Out London as one of the best apps for 2011. Maria’s New York based interior design company with a strong focus on contemporary and modern art, art collecting, wine collecting and customized wine storage. She is the one to call to make your house a home.

As many of you know, I have some major hair issues. My hair even opened its own twitter account recently when I was sleeping. Story to come. So hair products are important to me. And IT. Hair Rules daily cleansing cream is not only sulphate but paraben free. It cleanses and conditions in one process, it helps to

Goodbye, unruly hair

detangle hair while cleansing, leaving your hair, shiny, soft and silky. This company actually SPECIALIZES in those of us with unruly hair. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and partners at another event recently. All really great folks. Any mom, even one without major hair issues, is going to be so happy to receive some really fantastic pampering products from Hair Rules. The cleansing cream retails at $32 for a 16oz bottle and will last for ages. Always check their website for special offers and of course hair styling tips.

Last but not least from this event was this stunning piece by  Judith Jack . Now look. By now you know how insanely picky I am. I never talk about anybody else’s jewelry unless I am REALLY

Come to MAMA!

impressed. This necklace has gorgeous Mother of Pearl on the back of a faceted blue stone which is surrounded by genuine marcasite. I literally saw it and said “WOW”. It has an intricate sterling chain which can either be worn long at 36″or halved to hang at the neckline, 18″.   I’m telling you, it’s Genius.  It retails at $350 and is a perfect gift for any mom and can be found at Nordstrom and Von Maur.

Of course, if none of these really magnificent gifts works for your Mom, or you just really want to overwhelm her with your undying adoration, I am adding new jewelry to my own site every day, so have a peek there as well.

Remember, be good to your Mom, and those who ACT like your Mom.

Much Love!

How to say “I Love You” in zero words or less.

February 6, 2011

Here I go again, writing a mushy Valentine’s Day post.

Being in a business that is closely related to passion, love, emotions and romance, (that would be jewelry and media, for those of you who are just tuning in) it’s really a wonder I ONLY do it once a year. But that gives me the rest of the year to think about it. I think about it pretty much every day.

Smoochy Woochy Necklace

To some, Valentine’s Day is just an overhyped capitalist plot to sell jewelry, chocolate, flowers, and really expensive dinner reservations where they sadistically limit the menu at your favorite place. To me, that’s a sad and jaded way to look at the day.

Think back. Remember when you were a little kid and you used to get valentines from your friends and parents? Wasn’t that fun? Sweet? And what about the first piece of jewelry you gave a girl or received from a boy. Why doesn’t Cracker Jack make good free prizes anymore, while I’m on that topic?

But I digress.

Remember the first love letter you received?  For me it was a long letter folded up in the shape of a football and slipped into my locker in high school. The guy who wrote it was afraid to tell me to my face that he was completely smitten. I got a few of those letters before I figured out who it was. He was just a friend. “Of course.” But I was touched.

Remember the first love letter you wrote? It was easy, wasn’t it. When is the last time you wrote one? Try it.

"Naples" earrings

This Valentine’s Day,  do something for somebody you care about. This may mean doing some laundry. Washing a dish. Telling somebody they are everything you have ever wanted and why. Having sex. For those of you who say sex has nothing to do with love, shame on you. Sex is intimacy, and intimacy is love. If she loves jewelry, great, give a personalized piece, like the pieces I make. Not something that was made by a machine. If they love sports or the theater, fork over tickets and suffer through it, even if you don’t particularly like it. Books are great gifts for people who actually take the time to read. Flowers are awesome. I have nothing against chocolate, personally.

Don’t limit celebrating the day just to your significant other, either. Is there anybody out there who doesn’t want to feel loved? Take the time to tell the important people in your life that they matter to you and you appreciate them.

No matter what little gift you choose to give the one you love, whether it be tangible or just an act of kindness, accompany it with a few words written down to commemorate that day and your feelings. Words are the best gift when accompanied by actions.

Happy Valentine’s Day. I appreciate you.
